Kim, Youngchul
Associate Professor in Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering
2nd Director of Smart City Research Center (2017-present)

Young (Youngchul) KIM, Ph.D. is an urban designer, architect, researcher and educator. He teaches history, theory and design in architecture and urbanism. His current research is of theory and history of urban and neighborhood design, and of human behavior and social responsibility in urban revitalization projects. His research and practice both explore roles of built environments in human being's daily challenges to continuously sustain their urban life. Before joining KAIST, he was an assistant professor at City University of Hong Kong and served the associate programme leader of Master of Urban Design and Regional Planning that he made in Hong Kong.

Yeo, Hwasoo
Professor
Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Hwasoo Yeo received a Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2008. Currently, he is a full professor in civil and environmental engineering, an adjunct professor in the Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Mobility, and an advisor for Global Education Development (G-School) at KAIST. He has led groundbreaking research projects in traffic prediction, simulation and signal control. His research interests include theoretical and simulation studies on traffic flow and traffic operations, AI mobility, and Intelligent Transportation Systems. He is also an active member of IEEE ITSS and an editorial advisory board member of Transportation Research Part C.

Lim, Lisa
Assistant Professor
Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Lisa Lim, Ph.D. is a researcher, designer and educator with her primary focus on improving health and wellness of users through design. She joined KAIST in 2021 and prior to joining KAIST, she was an assistant professor at Texas Tech University. She is interested in how spatial layouts can support individual experience and organizational outcomes and how designers can provide such environments to users. With her academic and practical background, she has expertise on analytical and empirical approaches for understanding both space and the people in it.

Cha, Seung Hyun
Associate Professor
Graduate School of Culture Technology

Professor Cha Seung Hyun's leadership is at the forefront of investigating the realms of forecasting future spatial and urban environments, metaverse design paradigms, and human-space interaction dynamics. His research entity is dedicated to the seamless amalgamation of forefront technologies such as IoT sensors, AI, and VR/AR to develop environments tailored to user needs. His mission is to enhance the quality of living spaces and push the boundaries of technological innovation, aiming for a synthesis of digital and tangible worlds that enrich human experiences and interactions.

Han, Albert Tonghoon
Associate Professor
Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

Dr. Albert Tonghoon Han’s research and teaching backgrounds encompass land use, urban growth management, environmental planning, and data mining for planning practice and research. His research interests include the following three areas: (1) evaluating regional growth management and local land use policies for urban sprawl mitigation and land preservation; (2) analyzing the effectiveness of environmental policies for air pollution and climate change mitigation; and (3) enhancing planning process with data mining and online platforms. Dr. Han has previously taught various undergraduate and graduate-level planning courses at the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of Calgary, and the University of Pennsylvania.
